Contingency Bids
1.0 Scope: Rural Metro Fire recognizes that operational employees protected by the CBA can bid on open positions within the department. Positions are awarded to the individual with the most seniority within the department. In the past, the department has utilized a rebid system where each position within the operation is open for selection. This allows employees the opportunity to select a different assignment during the rebid. Recognizing that employees may wish to change their assignment separate from a rebid, and most openings may not be attractive to an employee with significant seniority, an alternate system will be in place.
2.0 Purpose: The following general order will define the intent, process, and specific parameters for when an employee wishes to place his/her position up for bid.
3.0 Initial Steps: An employee wishing to place his/her position up for bid will first contact an assistant chief. The assistant chief will then:
1. Contact employee's leadership to discuss any issues related to the
2. Communicate with KMFFA Secretary that a position is coming up for bid employee.
4.0 Process: Once a quarter, the KMFFA Secretary will post the position the employee wishes to vacate. This position will be noted as a "Contingency Bid" in the shift bid communication. The contingency bid is awarded once 2 conditions are met:
1. The employee who placed his/her position up for contingency bid agrees to move to one of the available assignments. Seniority is not recognized in this case, the employee who placed his/her position for bid can choose from the available positions.
2. Leadership of both parties have met with one another and the employees to discuss transition and expectations.
If the employee who placed the contingency bid refuses the available options, they must wait 6 months before they can place another contingency bid.
5.0 New Assignment: New assignments will begin as close to the beginning of the following month as possible.
6.0 Submitted Bids: You are not allowed to withdraw your bid once it's submitted. Take your time to make your decision.
